Great Ideas that Shape Education (part 2)

As we develop a biblical worldview about education, what ideas should shape our thinking? One of my favorite theologians, Jeff Purswell, says that "The Bible alone accurately describes reality as God knows it, so the Bible is the only reliable reference point for our lives. The Bible is God's take on reality." Since the Bible is God's take on reality and therefore education, I think Dr. Purswell would encourage us to develop a philosophy of education from ideas in Scripture. In this post, I want to share another great idea that I think shapes our take on education. Here’s the idea:

God is sovereign (Psalm 95). I think this idea might be the grandest of all for a biblical worldview. Here’s what this means: God rules over all. Again, Jeff Purswell says, “God establishes creation as his own vast kingdom; it’s his realm; he’s king over these things because he made it.” I think Abraham Kuyper spoke well when he said that “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, ‘Mine!’” Wow! God is in charge.

So what, though? How does the sovereignty of God make a difference in education?
